The Grainger Cup

Last year, Saxons family lost a very important member of our team.

Joe Grainger – Chairman, Coach and friend to many, sadly passed away in November, aged 49.  Joe had been ill for many years and finally lost his battle with Leukaemia, after contracting Covid. His loss was huge, not just to myself and the other Saxons family members, but also amongst the wider basketball community.  Joe was not just a dedicated Basketball Coach, but he was also a genuinely great person who insisted on fairness and inclusivity.  He made it his mission to create pathways and opportunities for all.

This Saturday, 11th September, we will be holding the first ever annual ‘Grainger Cup’ to honour Joe and celebrate the huge part he played in the progression of Basketball. We would love you to bring your friends and family along to the Oxstalls Sports Park to be a part of this exciting and emotional event. I look forward to seeing everyone there to honour Joe.

Thanks for your support,

Darren Cooke – Gloucester Saxons Basketball Academy Chairman
