Cheltenham based Basketball Coach, Carlos Moreira is joining the SAXONS!

Gloucester Saxons Basketball Club are excited to announce that local Cheltenham based basketball coach, Carlos Moreira will join the clubs Basketball England qualified coaching team next season.

Coach Moriera will become the new Head Coach of the Saxons U16 National League team as they prepare for their second season in the BE National League. He will join the team later this summer as they prepare for pre-season and continue with their off-season individual development.

Coach Moreira will bring a wealth of invaluable experience to both Gloucestershire College and the Gloucester Saxons as they look to continue to develop the player pathways on offer to local youngsters.

Coach Moreira who is Portuguese by descent, but lives and works locally, has more recently coached the Team Gloster Jets U18 National League team and will be looking forward to the change in home venue, from Deer Park School in Cirencester to the 2018/19 seasons combination of the University of Gloucestershire and Gloucestershire College as venues for home court venue games.

Coach Moreira has also been instrumental as a coach during his tenure with the BE South West Girls Regional Development Programme.

Coach Moreira has been head coach of the girl’s programme for 3 years. In the 3 years he headed the SW girl’s teams they made huge progress with both the U15 and 17 teams successfully finishing in the top 4 teams in the National Regional Development tournaments. He even went to the final with this year’s U17 squad finishing 2nd, which is the Regions highest ever finish for the girls.

Carlos was also called up to help coach the Great Britain Under16 Women’s team last Year as they prepared for International Competition; joining the team as an Assistant coach Carlos was able to work with the best players in Great Britain. With experiences such as this Carlos can now bring this knowledge and experience to help develop the Saxons U16 players who have shown lots of potential in their first season at this level.
